Lt. Falcon by Cloud Strife... Again

This is my 3rd attempt at making Falcon. I've had this planned, for the most part, since I saw the "Ultimate Duke" figure last year. Fast forward a year and I finally have a chance to make him.

First, and foremost, I want to say thanks to the talented Krexx! He sculpted the head and did an AMAZING job on it. For those of you that haven't figured it out yet, the head sculpt is based off of the alternate head sculpt that Sideshow did for their SDCC Exclusive Falcon (can be seen here: Sideshow Falcon Alternate Head). I like this look for Falcon b/c Green Berets don't wear their berets in the field, and the Drive-On Rag that he had wrapped around his head is something that Special Forces do wear in the field. So, it gives him something to distinguish him from others and notes his Special Forces status.

I took some liberty with the recipe. I knew I wanted him to have a Tiger Stripe BDU (a. I love TS camo; b. It suits him given the history of TS camo and the Green Berets; c. It's the closest real-world camo to his original figure's camo). I went with black tactical gear as I like the juxtaposition of it with TS (and Woodland) camo. I ditched the shotgun and went with an assault rifle. I gave him a radio pack since the original figure had it, and wanted to give a nod to the original design.

Head: A Krexx original based off of Sideshow's alternate Falcon head sculpt
Torso, Arms & Legs: Retaliation Ultimate Duke
Web Gear: Modified Retaliation Beachhead (added an Angel Forge knife in sheath, radio from the Retaliation Mouse/Duke/Flint web gear)
Belt: Cut from the vest of the Retaliation Joe Trooper
Radio Backpack: Bbi
Pouches added to the left leg and the right side of the belt: Bbi pouches

I know most people don't look for it, but I want to try and be as accurate as I can. I even checked to see if the "box areas" around the knee pads (where there are seams) caused for a break in the camo pattern. Apparently, not unless Crye Precision's page has them photoshopped... (which the possibility just now dawned on me...).

You say that tiger stripe is the closest real world camo to Falcon's, when in fact that is incorrect. I'm of the opinion that Falcon's uniform could be an attempt to copy SOG fatigues. Some of the RTs (Recon Teams) took the standard olive drab fatigues and would spray paint a black disruptive pattern on them.


Just puttin' it out there. Don't want it to sound like I don't dig the holy hell out of that TS job.

I'll attempt to do a tutorial the next time I paint a face. For now though, I can attempt to explain as best as I can:

1. I lay base coat of Testors' Floquil Undercoat Light Gray. Even over the bearded area.

2. I lay a coat of P3 Formula Midlund Flesh or Ryn Flesh... Can't remember which XD. They're both really close though.

3. I then go over it with Testors' Floquil Military Sand until I get the desired skin tone.

4. For the beard, I lightly dry-brushed the beard on so that the skin tone in the recesses are still visible to a degree, giving it a more realistic look.

5. For the eyes, I do the same thing I've always done, and many other do, and that's lay the black line at the top of the eye first, go over the eye area with white, while trying to leave the thin black line at the top for the eyelash effect. Then, center a black dot in the center of the eye for the pupil/iris. Then, do any touch-ups, if necessary.

I think you did a fantastic job but it's not "Falcon" to me with that beard, being stuck in the '82 like I am. He's a great modern trooper, though. Fantastic detail and paint work as always.

Might just be me but I kinda want to sculpt a PoC Jungle Duke head into something similar. Try to create a more "battle worn" version.
