Dial-Tone intercepted an encoded signal from Cobra High Command that contained details about a top-secret prototype of the Night Raven that had previously been only rumored to exist. Previous sightings had been made by intel sources close to Rio de Janeiro, and a Joe team had been sent in to investigate. After having two U.S. Dragonhawks shot down somewhere over the jungles of Brazil by an unidentified fighter jet, Hawk sent two teams to find and take out the jet, and recover the pilots and any crew aboard that had survived.
As both teams made their route to Brazil, Dial-Tone and the tracking team aboard the Flagg detected the jet again over Brazil airspace, and Hawk sent Ace manning a Skystriker to bring down the mystery jet. After locking onto the confirmed target and deploying missiles, the jet was successfully shot down. The pilot ejected before the crash, much to his chagrin. Alpha Team, which was originally sent to capture the jet and headed by Duke, made a detour to the crash site as the mission was now to secure the wreckage and pilot for questioning.
Bravo Team, commanded by Flint, had been sent in with Cutter aboard the W.H.A.L.E. to find the downed Joe team members. After successfully finding Ripcord and Scarlett, who had been separated from the other Dragonhawk team, Bravo Team made their way to the crash site, as the Alpha Team had been hit by heavy fire from unknown forces. Meanwhile, intel was coming in that Crazy Legs had been captured, and that his non-Joe Army pilot and co-pilot had been killed in the crash.
After meeting up at the rendezvous point with the Alpha Team, Duke filled both teams in on the situation: after sighting the pilot and finding the wreckage, the Alpha team came under heavy fire and were driven farther into the jungle. Cobra forces recovered the digital recording console from the jet and destroyed the wreckage remains, while the pilot was pulled in by a small squad of Jungle Range-Vipers. Both Joe teams made it to a small clearing where ancient ruins stood, and took a stand against the faceless Cobra forces that had them cornered.
To retrieve his two teams, Hawk sent a third small team including Brazil specialist Claymore who was stationed nearby, along with Gung-Ho and Roadblock flown in by Lift-Ticket. After locking onto the two main threats—Cobra Jungle-Viper snipers—Low-Light, part of Alpha Team, took out both targets, making it safe for Lift-Ticket to drop in the recovery team. With Roadblock and team safely on the ground, Lift-Ticket made a quick exit to safety in the Tomahawk, awaiting further instructions to come in for the impending pickup. The Joes now stood a much better chance with Roadblock and company to lay down cover fire. Armed with a mini-gun and a lot of ammo, Roadblock quickly began taking out the Range-Vipers, the Twin Battle Guns, and any Cobra Troopers who were unfortunate enough to be within range...
