Right on man!

I'm married with multiple children, some are grown. My wife doesn't care either,at least she doesn't voice it,lol.hell I just bought her a $3,000 refrigerator, and a $2500 stove, and she still can't cook worth a shit,so idk if she has room to complain if I buy a few cars off Craigslist, and a few joes off eBay:D

Amazing stuff man! although I'd like to see some more interior in the buildings, that far surpasses anything Ive seen before in 1:18! I'm not familiar with "the hoth dio" that others have mentioned tho. I'm assuming its starwars? was never a starwars person tho,and if I remember correctly hoth is an arctic type theme, and I'm not a snow person either being I'm from&live in a subtropical environment I really can't relate.haha.

I'll say it again,WOW! I'll definitely show this thread to my guys at work. there's a slight stigma to grown men buying toys, but I educate people when I can thats its more then a bunch of nerds making sound effects, and playing with toys, there's an art&hobby behind it,and I think this thread portrays that very well. simply impressive.

My wife does not mind about my hobby but there were times when my oldest son was 13 or 14 and was ashamed about having a father which is buying toys for himself. He came over it too. In Brazil model building is completely unusual and most people never would buy used toys but I do not mind. Sometimes I tell others that model building is an old German tradition and than Brazilians normally think that foreigners are not ticking right anyway.
However, this diorama rocks and I can't wait to see pictures of the finished work.

:wave:HFF....another update on the base....

This is an entrance to the FOB on top of the base and training ground for the Devil's. There is no fence at this level in side the perimeter of the base entrance....this checkpoint and guardhouse is the last one before the entrance to the Devil's 'Underground Base'. Notice the symbol for radiation, the Devil's base is powered by a new type of fusion reactor.(I'll show that later on).

As always.........stay tuned for more....:salute::wave:

These pictures are gorgeous.
I love your paint apps on the sets, especially on the tower.
Your focus is great- I love the middle one where the guard tower is all in focus.
I really like the high contrast and bright color. It really looks like daytime.
I love the plant material on the ground- the plastic stuff in front of the guard house. What is that?
The trees look so great in the background.
And the signs really take it to the next level!

These pictures are a feast!
This thread is an inspiration. Thanks.

Wow, just checking this thread out. Your work is amazing! What did you use for grass and ground cover?

Hey dude, thanks for your nice comment. The grass is moss of different colors some just placed and some ground up and glued in place like dirt. The brush and small plants come from the DollarTree. The base is pretty much a 4'x6' paint canvas as I used and made my own variety of colors of earth and mud tones. I think that the secret to large dio's and not spend a lot of money on coverings for it is, using natural organic materials....another words, I go get dirt outside and clean it spread it out douse it in isopropynol and let it evaporate and dry completly. Spray glue down on the whole surface and dust it with the real dry dirt. shake it off after 24hrs and repeat until desired effect. Then add greens and organics...build up to tree's and there you have it. You should only use paint to tint not replace. For the best 'natural' look, use 'natural' materials.

Hey, you do such great helicopters and dios, but that's no secret.

I have been working on a TRU blackhawk, which came in red and white as a "rescue chopper" or whatever. I painted it flat black with a few metal colored details (rotors, landing gear, etc) and some translucent red on the lights.

You got any tips for some other stuff I can do to make it look a little more finished without rebuilding the whole thing or making major modifications? Like what details would you add with paint or whatever?

I was thinking of finding some mini plastic diamond plate sheets for the floor, but I don't have a ton of other ideas.

It also came with a big, kind of wonky winch on the side above the door. Have considered trying to remove it.

Hey Preach, thanks for the nice comments man...if I can give any advice at all is work to your ability, however that being said, paint goes a looong way and decals...but not silly gi joe decals something cooler or real world decals lick #rs and reg. and logo or whatever...these go a long way. Don't worry about your mistakes, everything can be fixed.....even if its broken in half...

It would be nice to add an update. I'm sure this diorama has continued to evolve and it would be great to see where things are today.

Behind a camera watching you!
slightly off topic,

If anyone wants to play around with green screening for toy pictures, there is a program called Stikbots that I use, found the full version with a stage in toys R us, but the stikbots sets are pretty cheap & the software is free. Basically it converts your camera phone to a green screen animation studio.

Stikbot | Official website of Stikbot

Obviously photoshop is better but I just don't have the time to properly photoshop all the shots I want. So this is a nice animation tool. The sets also come with a camera tripod for animation.

Beware of shitty software.....good green screening takes a good program. I use Green Screen Wizard....its $300 a pop but when you use it right, you can't tell between reality and fakery....if you are good with it. If you don't want to spend that kind of money, photoshop is the next best thing.
