I got the pleasure of talking to Anthony Chin from Merit for an extended period of time, and got some cool nuggets of information about current trends and future thoughts in the 1:18 world.
One note he mentioned to me that I hadn’t seen before, JSI is using a 4 layer paying technique on their models, so they can add more detail and weathering on their remake of the 21st Century Models. On the Corsair, it looked really nicely done, and hopefully they will succeed on the F-14 paint job.
I was really impressed with the Corsair, as I had never even seen a 21st Century Toys version, but JSI’s was very nice to look at, and seemed to have a very good build quality.
I asked Merit about the Quality Control so far on the JSI products, and they said so far there have been no major problems. As you probably know, 21st Century Toys was notorious for their poor QC on their products, so many people have been wondering how JSI would fair in this regard.
The paint on the Corsair is worth the extra cash. Now I just need to find out what my wife did with my cash.
