Canadian Joe Con 2012

This last weekend in Toronto Canada,  the 2012 Canadian Joe Convention was held.  Officer member Charade attended the Convention and has brought back Intel to the states.  Here is a quote from Charade on Hasbro: The biggest disappoint was the lack of Hasbro Canada. They were scheduled for a panel near the end of the day, but reportedly they cancelled that about a week ago. According to the CJC administrators, Hasbro Canada pulled out due to a corporate-wide policy of minimizing the dissemination of information to the public for the immediate future. Supposedly, this is because of delay of the Retaliation movie, which disrupted their original plans for Joe’s future. The CJC staff told us that, while Hasbro International re-evaluates the future strategies for G.I. Joe, contact between Hasbro and the public will be minimal. Hasbro did show up to the CJC ... Countdown to #200

Forum member 1337W422102 is famous for his weekly comic series “Ages 25 & Up – Comic with Balljoints”. 1337W422102 who is commonly referred to on the forum as “Numbers” or “Leet” has transformed a  mostly background character like Clutch into a much loved heroic character.  Ages 25 and Up features comedy and Easter eggs for all fans of comics, cartoons, toys, movies and popular culture from the 1980’s to present day. The comic was first published in 2008 and has experienced several milestones throughout the years.  Ages 25 and Up has featured serious stories,  an ode to GI Joe comic #21,  an amazing take on Captain America, yearbook style issues,  a vote of confidence from Larry Hama himself and an epic #100 issue that used stop motion!  The comic has sparked it’s very own Q and A’s with questions submitted by the fans and ... Jinx: Anatomy of an SDCC Exclusive

Hot on the heels of both Sgt. Slaughter and Zarana, fans found out at Toy Fair earlier this year that the 2012 SDCC G.I. Joe Exclusive would be the red-clad female ninja, Jinx. Just a few days ago, we finally saw the first glimpse of the card art in the form of leaked samples from China. As always, the overseas samples stirred up a cruel hybrid of excitement and gnashing of teeth among the collecting communities as they await the chance to either get her at the Convention for retail price, or pay ridiculous prices on the secondary market to obtain her as non-attendees. Each year the exclusives have more and more commotion surrounding them as rabid fans prepare for the unavoidable frenzy to add them to their collections. But why? Ever since Hasbro launched the G.I. Joe “25th ... Read More »

G.I. Joe Club Footloose Review

Why on earth such a generic character has been on my “25th wish list” since the G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary line launched back in 2007, I’ll never know. Footloose is dated, he’s a third-tier character at best, and he’s almost as generic as Grunt is (and I hate Grunt). It likely has to do with his character in the Sunbow cartoon. Often teamed up with the likewise goofball team of Bazooka, Alpine and Quick Kick, the probably-a-pothead-although-he-was-never-explicitly-defined-as-a-pothead Footloose bumbled his way through battles with his bazooka and the munchies. He had a giant pillar crash on him in the episode closing credits. Not the most reliable soldier. So why did I want him in my modern collection so badly? No idea, to be honest. But I just did. And since he’s a fairly generic figure made from easily-reused/reusable parts (pretty ... Read More »

Cover Girl in Coveralls by Fled74

Forum Officer Fled74 recently shared his custom Cover Girl in coveralls with us and also took the time to answer a few questions about how he got into collecting and customizing: Q.  What got you into collecting 1:18 scale figures and vehicles, and how long have you been collecting them? A. I had a few ARAH Joes when I was 10 or so (in 1984), and it didn’t take long for me to start swapping their body parts around. I outgrew them (or so I thought) a few years later, only to rediscover them in 2003 when I picked up a few Valor Vs Venom figures at TRU. I noted the improved sculpting, but I still found them lacking (mainly the articulation and body proportions). Thanks to Australian retailers, we never got the 25th Anniversary line. It wasn’t until I ... Read More »

G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra Game Review

I was a child of the 80’s and like most kids I fell in love with G.I. Joe.  As the years went on and I got into video games,  I’ve always dreamed of a good G.I. Joe video game.  I’ve played the few games that have come out and haven’t been impressed.  When the Rise of Cobra movie was announced I was excited for the release of the video game.  It’s frustrating that most movie based video games have a reputation of being low budget,  rushed and frankly just not very good.  This game is no exception. After reading some previews and early reviews on Rise of Cobra I had made the decision that I wouldn’t purchase this game right away.  It didn’t matter how much of Joe fan that I was,  I wasn’t spending $50 for a disappointing ...
